Learn to paint a variety of subject matter such as landscapes, seascapes and animals, while also learning the techniques and properties of both acrylic paint on canvas and watercolor on paper. Students will learn to mix and handle each medium and to choose the proper brushes for specific tasks, as they create realistic images in exciting and colorful compositions. Students first complete demonstration-style paintings with the instructor and then may choose their own photographs to paint from. All materials provided. Cost: $260.

Note: Acrylic and watercolor paint is water based and non-toxic, but it is permanent. It will not wash out of clothing.

Mixed Media (ages 8-12) New!

Wednesday Afternoons, 4:00-5:30 pm (September 29th - December 8th)
Each project will utilize at least two different mediums, as students learn to create works of art by combining materials such as acrylic paint and collage or watercolor and ink pens. We will also use found objects - both natural and synthetic - such as leaves and textured fabric. We will focus on drawing skills and conceptual skills as we explore both realism and abstraction using materials that are conducive to the subject matter. This course will challenge students to be creative and expressive with their artwork through concepts, materials, design and color. All materials provided. Cost: $260.

Teen Art Scene (ages 12-teen) New!

Thursday Evenings, 7:00-9:00 pm (September 30th - December 9th)
Students will be involved in a varied curriculum ranging from fine art to commercial art. We’ll begin with a focus on observational drawing skills, move into acrylic & watercolor painting, and eventually create illustration, lettering and design projects. Thus, students will have the opportunity to improve their technical skills and improve their conceptual skills, as they’re challenged to produce ideas for their artwork. This is a great opportunity for teens to create portfolio pieces. All levels welcome. All materials provided. Cost: $260.

Drawing (teens and adults) New!

Wednesday Evenings, 7:00-9:00 pm (September 29th - December 8th)
A course for beginners and anyone wishing to further develop their drawing skills. Along with some technical drawing and abstract work, we will create realistic drawings through observation of real objects and from photographs. Students will be introduced to a fresh way of looking at objects, and will develop the ability to transfer what they see, onto the drawing paper. Using pencil, charcoal, pastels and colored pencils, subject matter will include perspective, still life, portraits, landscapes and animals. Discussions will include group critiques where comments and suggestions add to the learning and growth process. All materials provided. Cost: $250.

Studio Art (teens and adults)

Tuesday Evenings, 7:00-9:00 pm (September 28th - December 7th)
This open-studio session is for those who have at least some drawing experience, and desire a relaxing, creative space to execute their artwork, and be socially involved with other artists. Students choose their own project and bring their own materials, and have the opportunity to receive instruction and direction on their individual work, and be involved in class critiques. Teenagers preparing for art school, and anyone interested in developing their style, or continuing to work in their chosen style and medium, can benefit from this class. Registration is ongoing while space permits. Cost: $200.
