P.S.One more thing: I got to see Don's studio on Tuesday. I also got to sneak in
before class was almost over and witness his passion first-hand. Beth, he is soooo amazing w/ the kids and his love for art
just shines in all he says/does. Those kids actually listen to every word he says. Mary brought tears to my eyes...she just
looked so grown up and was studying this little boy Mike (she was drawing him). She has been involved in many extra-curricular
activities, but this is my favorite. As soon as Sue is six, she will go too. I just think it is so important for children
to explore their creative side (even if they're not talented). I am sooo proud of Don for following his passion.
Parent of a six-year-old, sent via email to my sister.
Thank you for
a great week for the kids. They love being at your studio...and I love their level of confidence they have gained through
your instruction. I hope you hear compliments like this often because you deserve many!
- Parent,
following a one-week summer course.
I loved this class - it was very relaxing. You have a low
key, non-threatening, very encouraging teaching style. Basically, you gave your students the opportunity to explore the medium
for themselves.
- Adult student from “Techniques
in Colored Pencil”.
I liked the "artistic vibe." A good environment is so important. I felt
from the moment I walked into the studio that I would feel really comfortable. You are a very sympathetic person, and it is
very conducive to creating things.
- Teenage student
in "Introduction to Acrylic Painting".
You
give good direction/advise in terms of specific ways to improve drawings rather than vague encouragement. Your enthusiasm
is infectious.
-Adult student from “Techniques in Colored Pencil.”
Did this course meet your
expectations? What did you learn?
This course was way more awesome than I expected. (I thought it would be
pretty cool though). I learned how to draw a portrait, many techniques about how to paint and lots of other stuff!
- Child in “Young Artists.”
Mr. Johnson took the time for each student, to guide us all in the right direction. I never thought
I could draw a thing. I will keep trying to improve.
- Adult student in "Basic Drawing"
at Johnson School of Art.
Around the time of my sophomore year, I began to realize I had no conception of where my life
was going. I did not know what I wanted, or what path to take. I felt like a lost soul with no direction. Through you, I found
direction. I saw that art was the outlet in my life where I did not know what college to attend or what to major in. It was
at this time when you offered your guidance. I hope you will find that it was well received. It was with your help that I
came to the conclusion that art was the career for me. Through you I was able to find the perfect art school. You aided me
in putting together a portfolio, and prepared me for art school, as well as the real world. In
short, you have had such a great influence on me during my 4 years at high school. I truly cannot imagine where I would be
if I did not have your guidance. I can only fear that I would find myself in a career that I did not enjoy, and working a
job that I would hate. Though the road to being an artist has been a little bumpy, I know I will never find a lack of happiness
from my choice. I could not leave this school without taking the time to say thank you for everything you have done for me.
You have influenced me more than any other teacher in my high school career. I would not be the person I am today without
everything you have done for me.
